Question by Ayman: What are the options that wouldn’t work on an unlocked iPhone outside the US?
I don’t live in US, and the iPhone is not, and will probably never be, available in my country. So I might buy an unlocked one, so it wouldn’t have to work with AT&T. But I was wondering, what would be the inconvenients? What are the options that wouldn’t work on an unlocked iPhone OUTSIDE THE US? Would GPS work? Would google maps work? Would the internet work? etc. And are there any other risks/inconvenients for unlocking it?

What is the latest iphone firmware and am i using the right unlock tutorial?

I got a iphone 3g today. It is unlocked and running the 3.0 firmware. I want to use the newest firmware which i think is 3.01. Am i right? Lastly, i found this tutorial : http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=4301 but ti is for jailbreaking the iphone. When i follow this tutorial to jailbreak does it automatically unlock it to?

*** Edited: Just wanted to add that I live about 10 minutes from the state line, so it’s not like I’m driving any great length to buy it. Just wondering if it is worth the extra 10 miles to save 30 bucks or whatever….

Technically, you’d owe a use tax to PA.
