iPhone Smart Case from Waterfield Designs (Review)
The iPhone Smart Case is a carry pouch for the iPhone 3G/3GS and iPhone 4. It is essentially a slip case that will accommodate an iPhone for secure protection while in transit. Waterfield has a few options for both a naked iPhone and an iPhone in a slim case. Specifically, Waterfield made the larger cases able to fit with an Apple Bumper, but it looks like most slim third-party cases will also fit. Other options include a flap for attaching to a backpack should strap or a clip for belts or bags. The Smart Case also features an external pocket for storing cards, or accessories like earbuds. The Smart Case is available in Black, Copper, Flame, Green, Pearl and Pine for or , depending on configuration.

iPhone 2G repaired sim card pin
iPhone 2G repaired sim card pin

While there are lots of reasons for the sim card not installed or no sim errors on the iPhone none of the solutions I found on line dealt with a broken pin on the motherboard where the sim card seats.
I first suspected a broken pin when the sim card got stuck on removal.
There are a couple of videos on youtube on disassembly which should be watched first. This is a difficult project but not impossible. I first verified that it was a hardware problem by booting the phone back to the original state it came in to verify that it wasn’t something I did during the jailbreak and unlock I had just accomplished.
The phone still had the no sim card error after a restore so that convinced me it was a hardware problem. So I watched the videos, assembled my tools and set to it. Removing the back case is difficult and will ruin a good case tool so I used a rectangular razor blade between the silver and the black to loosen the black piece and push it off the bottom. Prying the silver section off cut the end off the case tool and I used whatever to help lift it off. It did suffer some warping and now isn’t a perfect fit but I’m going to work on that later.
The tools I required were a case opener, though the iPhone broke mine, it was still useful however a razor blade or knife can also be used. I used a scalpel, a very small Philips screwdriver, some glue, something to keep the parts in; I used a small ice cube tray, a magnifying glass, soldering iron, flux, solder and for the missing pin a piece of 22 gauge wire flattened with a hammer.
Once you get the back case off proceed with removing the motherboard as in the videos as the sim card pins are on the bottom. I nicked the broken pin enough to take solder, soldered the flattened 22 gauge wire onto it and put the phone back together. It works fine. The most troublesome part was gluing the antenna jacks back on. I used contact cement over the tops of the jacks long enough for it to set and that seemed to work. Be careful removing the antennas as they are glued in place. Also the large ribbon connector has a snap holding it in place. Good luck. You’ll need it.

How to charge your iphone when traveling by plane?
Question by Pat S: How to charge your iphone when traveling by plane?
I know my iphone will discharge half way through my trip. I need options on how to charge on iphone? Should I purchase a portable iphone charger? Can the white wired cord be brought passed security/ as carry-on? Where can I charge my phone?

Firstly your phone should be in Airplane Mode for the flight, even if you plan to turn it off for periods. Airplane Mode is the first item in Settings. Aside from most airlines insisting on this it will actually reduce your power usage.
Yes you can take the charge cord through security. You can take any of the following through security as well.
The cheapest and most versatile option maybe to get a phone case that has an extra battery in it.

Some seats have charge points. You’d need to check with your airline what kind they provide. Seatguru have a good guide for inflight charging.

I did hear about a charger that charged from the headphone socket in the seat arm. However it doesn’t appear to be available anymore.

Naturally having your phone as charged up as possible before you leave will help. If you are driving to the airport, an in car charger will help keep you topped up before you get there.
If your lucky you might find a standard socket in the airport departure area. I’ve sat on the floor next to one for 20 minutes charging my phone in the past.
I also seem to recall seeing a paid for charging area at an airport. Check with your airport though.
Happy trails!
