Can you update your iPod Touch 2nd Generation using the iPhone updates?

Question by billiejoeishot211: Can you update your iPod Touch 2nd Generation using the iPhone updates?
When you update your iPod Touch 2nd Gen, is it just the iPhone update? I am confused, I dont know if there is a special one particularly for iPod Touch or if iPhone & touch run off the same update.

I also know that the current update is 2.2, if that helps?

Prior to 2.0, the iPod Touch (2nd gen wasnt out yet), and the iPhone had different software.

After Apple released 2.0, both the iPod Touch and iPhone use the same software (Except they have different hardware obviously).

So when you click “check for update” in itunes, and if it says 2.2 that’s correct. The firmware files are different, but the features are the same, just use iTunes to update.
