I agree with the user feed-back that preceded my review (12-31-09). I bought this item based on their reviews and for my use it is perfect (5 stars). The primary gel cover has (1) barely noticeable pattern of ovals along the edge which facilitate grip, (2) integrated tabs for the docking and earphone ports which feel substantial and are easy to operate, (3) an opening for the ring silencer and (4) a cover over the volume control toggle switch without hindering use. The overall fit on a 3GS is excellent and should provide protection from use in rain. The case does not impede the speaker or camera. The case was easily removed from the front pocket of my jeans and does not attract lint. The screen protector is a tri-laminate sheet with the protector in the center. It has 2 labeled paper tabs that need to be removed in the indicated sequence to apply to the iPhone properly. The protector went on the phone easily with little difficulty and fit nicely. A small plastic card is supplied to facilitate removing entrapped air by pushing on the top layer which is ultimately removed. The result was a virtually unnoticeable clear, bubble and scratch free protector. Make sure you do not touch or contact the protector after the first sheet is removed. It can pick up dust or hair which may be impossible to remove. The protector does not use adhesive so it can be easily removed without leaving residual on the original screen.
UPDATED 01-04-2010: TESLA correctly pointed out that the case is available in a variety of colors. When I did my original search only the black model was highlighted- nothing to indicate other colors were available. My bad… Will order one of these for my 16 year old daughter in the color of her choice.
Bottom Line: I would (and probably will) buy another. It will protect my iPhone without hindering its use. Always use care when docking the iPhone.

I was looking for something tough but not too bulky to fit in my pocket. This is it! The hard cover makes it slick enough to slide in and out of pocket while the rubber sides make it easy to grip. I do construction work and end up with sand or sawdust in my pockets at the end of the day. The plugs covering the charge port and earphone jack do a great job of keeping the detritus in my pocket and not in my phone! The earphone jack cover is fairly smooth and flush when closed. Looks great, but if you use the jack very often it could be irritating to dig it out with your fingernail every time. Not an issue for me tho.
The cover arrived on time but was missing the clear shell. I called Otterbox and they sent me a new one without any hassles. Cust. Serv. was great!
The only issue I had that would give it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the clear plastic screen protector was a pain. The little tab that helps separate the protector from its backing wouldn’t come off. After applying the screen protector I worked for 15 min trying to remove the tab. Had to use alcahol and a plastic scraper to remove it. Needed a little alcohol myself after that! The end result is that the top left corner is buggered up a bit and won’t lay down completely. Hardly noticable tho.
Overall a great product! I’ve had it 3 months now and still lovin it. Would definitely recommend!

I have a Speck silicone case that’s really grippy, but the thing was too hard to get out of my pants pocket. I still have it, and I used it at Disney World recently (no need to worry about it falling out!).
The Commuter TL has hard plastic on the back, so I can slide it out of my pocket easily and silicone sides so that I can hold onto the phone better. It’s a good balance of the two, and I’m very happy with it. I’ve had it for over a month now, and it’s the case that I use daily now.
I have not tried the screen protector that was included with the case.

I never write reviews, but I wanted everyone to know how wonderful this case is. I read all the reviews prior to getting this case and was very excited to try it out. I’ve been using it for one month now, and with three kids between the ages of 7 and 1 ½ playing games on my iphone, this case has really protected it. It’s nice and slides easily either into my purse or pocket. My husband bought the otterbox defender and he loves my case to, he’s in the military and incredibly rough on his phone or he would’ve already ordered him one like mine. He’ll pick my phone up and mention how much user friendly my case is because it doesn’t cover any part on the front, smaller, smoother, can hear the speaker nicely with no distortions, and it’s comfortable to use right next to your year. Overall, I will never use another case and I recommend it to anyone who wishes to protect their phone with style.

I’ve had my iPhone for just over a year. I started with a simple silicone cover but found that I couldn’t get the phone in and out of my pocket. So I switched to a hardshell case. That case has finally worn out and I decided to try this one (my husband loves his Otterbox Defender).
My primary requirements are 1) that it go in and out of my pocket easily. and 2) that it protect my phone which sees it’s fair share of drops (which of course I completely blame on my 2 and 5 year olds both of whom love to play games on my phone. haha.)
This case is just about as perfect as I could ask for. The screen protector went on effortlessly, the case feels solid and I think it has done a great job of protecting my phone…and absolutely NO issues getting it in and out of my back pocket.
