I know the old iphone doesnt. But someone told me the new iphone 3g s responds to fingernail touches rather than finger tips. Thank you.

No. the iphone touch screens are all the same.
The touch screens react from the heat in four finger tips which is why the nail does not work.
None of the iphones does respond to fingernails
