94.365 – WHOO HOO IPAD!

It’s heeeere!
I had seriously doubted the claim that an iPad would be a ‘magical’ experience. But after the kindly Apple reps gave me a complimentary bottle of SmartWater, and gave me some alone time with it, I must say… I want one.
It’s crudely been described as a big iPhone – but it’s a whole ‘nother animal. Nimbly and beautifully built for shared media, photos, videos – deftly accessing the web, mail… and the touch keyboard is really cool. I felt right at home with the large and quick responding buttons. Actually, since I type on my iPhone vertically, it felt even more comfortable for me in the vertical position. Screen is amazingly bright, and very crisp.
iBooks is really quick and turning pages is sensitive and quick. You can even grab the edge of the page and move it around before you turn it. Very intuitive.
Notice all the words above synonymous with ‘fast’? The thing is FAST. I definitely see potential for expanded use.
Flickr looks awesome on it too. Combined with the news that all Flickr videos can be rendered on iPad via HTML5? Even better.
If I had the extra cash – boom. Sold. But I have as much cash for it as I do a legitimate reason to have one…
for now…
Just a gaint iPod!
You can’t wait until the G3?
It doesn’t support Flash or Silverlight, that sucks!!
he he
A fun photo of the iPad & you!
Great gadget that will become better over time . Remember the Iphone 2G 3G and now 3GS ?… Better to wait a little longer .
Nice capture .

Hmm…..
Haha, very cool shot, this thing looks sweet!!
how cool the second one! xD
Looks pretty fun to use, but it doesn’t suppport flash yet!
I don’t feel the need right now, and I tried to talk myself into it. So I got this instead this week:
haha this is so funny and cool 😀
congrats 🙂
AHHHHHHHHH! im excited!
Congratulations – looks so fun!!

Seen in my contacts’ photos. ( ?² )
congrats!
I’m a Huge apple fan, seriously, over the past years I’ve bought pretty much any product they release, but the lack of a usb port or a video cam, has me still thinking about it.
I need one for ASL! Don’t want to lug around a portable DVD player. =P I think that justifies the need…
I am so gonna get one hopefully soon… So that way I don’t have to get the iPod Touch… But I don’t think i want to carry it around all the time, So Maybe I will get the iPod Touch…. Man Life if too complicated with all these cool Gadgets Coming out… =)
I just hate you now for giving all the good reasons to go get one :)))))) So sleek looking also enjoy your new toy At least we need to wait just a little more over here in London
LOL! Josh, you’re such an Apple shill! I knew it’d just be a matter of hours before you could no longer resist going to the store. =D
Somehow I just knew you would be all over this! Hahaha! Love the photo buddy!
Hee hee! Thanks everyone for all the comments. Love it. Oh, just to clarify, this is in the Apple store… I didn’t buy one. Although my impulsive tendencies gave me a run.
Lack of Flash support is a big deal to some, but not where it counts for me personally. Where do you use flash on the web? Youtube? Built in support. Netflix? They released an iPad app. Hulu? Working on an iPad app. ABC? iPad app. CNN? iPad app. Flickr? HTML5 support.
I guess if one is really big into playing Flash GAMES, it might be a bigger deal – but, uh, there are thousands of games on the App Store – A lot of them better than any Flash game I’ve played.
Everything I might use Flash for personally has been taken care of.
Licensing Flash costs big money and sucks huge amounts of battery life. HTML5 is the new web coding standard and costs nothing to license, with minimal battery draw. H.264 encoding makes HD-content incredibly easy and faster to stream, at higher qualities than Flash.
By not employing Flash in the iPad, Apple has been able to achieve the frankly unbelievable battery life: 10 full usage hours.
Yeah, I’d still like the option, sure… Can I live without it in the iPad? Absolutely. I have a computer. Nobody that buys an iPad isn’t going to ALSO have a computer. For what little I need Flash for, I can use a computer.
All that aside – I still didn’t really want one until I held it. Free to try! Haha. Some are saying this is Apple’s finest first-gen product ever. Early dis-assembly shows that there’s quite a bit of room inside… Can’t wait to see what they do with 2, 3G.
Which should come in, what, like 6 months?
Cool! I saw it on Modern Family (sings "Taco Bell, Taco Bell, product placement with Taco Bell." Sorry it’s the song I sing when I see product placement :-p. Trivia can you guess the movie it’s from?). It was neat how the guy on the show could blow out the candles on the cake on the screen.

Its funny how far Apple has come now everything else just seems so lame *as I type on a ’01 dell* sigh….
josh.liba Thanks for your review. I may head out to the Apple store tomorrow to try it out first hand.
you lucky sun of a gun you…!!!!!!!!!!!!
haha
haha looks so fun 😀
Okay. That is just amazing. 😀
I’m all for HTML5!!
Flash is old tech, your right about sucking up battery life.
If the iPad was about $300 I will buy one. 🙂
Wow! nice expression of you! 🙂
Perfect expresion & perfect shot. good job. Where is my Ipad?.
