What is a good iphone 4 accessory for someone who is not technologically inclined?

Question by sagara: What is a good iphone 4 accessory for someone who is not technologically inclined?
I never used an iphone. Out of principal i stay away from the things; but i’m purchasing a gift, and need to expertise with the iphone market.

The receiver isn’t really familar with technology. So something that will help their use of the iphone.
bluetooth headsets, large battery pack, leather cases are pretty much out of the question.
What other suggestions do you have?

How about an iTunes gift card, so that they can download some music or apps.

Or if you’re on a lower budget, maybe a Bumper or Dock from Apple (other cheaper ones are also available).

Or if your budget is lower still, a screen protector?

Hope this helps

  1. You should probably buy a simple case to protect the sides and glass back of the phone, especially if the recipient isn’t used to technology. If they can’t even manage to put a case on a cell phone, you need to think of a different gift. Sorry, but it’s true.

An iphone also requires a computer with the current version of iTunes installed in order to activate the phone (just to make calls from it!) as well as to add music, back up the information on the phone, download the photos taken on the phone etc. So if they aren’t even as technologically savvy as to own a computer, figure out how to dock the phone to the computer, keep up with software updates, or work a leather case, then this is definitely a horrible gift idea. I can’t imagine giving an iPhone 4 to someone like you describe, unfamiliar with technology– it would be like giving a Learjet to someone who’s never even flown on a plane before.

So stop by an Apple Store or an AT&T store and they have iPhones on display for you to play with and see if this would be _at all_ an appropriate gift.

  2. A case of some kind to protect the phone. It’s really necessary. A packet of screen protectors. No touch screen phone should be used without a screen protector. If you want to be really nice, an itunes giftcard.

BTW, tell the recipient to download the user guide. It’s a pdf document on iTunes. It’s also on the phone, itself.
